The Villa

The house and cottage are built of local stone and have characteristic elements of an old Umbrian farmhouse — terracotta floors, hand-hewn wooden beamed and vaulted ceilings, brick arches and large, open stone fireplaces. They have been renovated in a clean, contemporary style. Both the house and cottage are spacious and flooded with light. The house’s thick walls, its setting at 500 m elevation, and the soft evening breeze from the valley below, keep the house at a comfortable temperature even at the height of summer.

The House

The house has a modern, fully equipped kitchen; a gracious dining room with a fireplace; and a living room with a huge stone fireplace, a triple barrel-vault ceiling, a piano and stylish, but comfortable furniture. A portico, a covered terrace which is accessed from the dining room and living room, offers a delightful spot for dining al fresco from spring to autumn. Four beautifully decorated and comfortable bedrooms and three full bathrooms are located upstairs. A fourth full bathroom is located downstairs. The house is furnished with Italian and Asian antiques and ethnic art from Africa and Asia.

The Cottage

The cottage, located between the house and pool, is an enchanting, self-contained living space. The open-plan ground floor contains a living room, dining room and kitchen, off of which is a full bathroom. With one wall essentially of glass, the interior is flooded with light. A graceful cantilevered stone staircase ascends to a spacious sleeping loft. The cottage is decorated with fine African textiles and sculptures.

The Pool

The large, 14m long, pool is perfect for an early morning swim or a dip to cool off after a day’s excursion. The stone terrace running the length of the pool and its built-in stone benches make for a lovely setting for reading, napping or watching the sun set over the golden fields with a glass of prosecco in hand.

The Grounds

The colors, scents and textures of the expansive and lush lawns, flower gardens, olive and fruit orchards and herb garden will delight your senses. In spring, the perfume of the linden trees and jasmine dominate, in summer, lavender. Rose and clematis adorn the walls of the house and cottage.

Amenities

The house and cottage are complete with modern conveniences – land line phone, wireless internet connection, cable TV (with English channels), a DVD/CD player, and a Bose bluetooth speaker. Visitors are welcome to use the collections of DVDs and CDs as well as the library of books while at Villa Tripoli. A washing machine, two bicycles, a pool table, an outdoor grill and pool lounge chairs are available for guests’ use during their stay.

Villa Tripoli was, hands-down, the most comfortable, beautiful, and interesting accommodation at which I've ever stayed. Our vacation in Umbria was one of the most memorable of my life.
